How to Prepare for Surgery

It’s natural to feel nervous about surgery. If you have any concerns, you can contact us.
  • Stop smoking. Being smoke-free reduces complication risks, reduces post-procedure problems, and shortens hospital stay and recovery time.
  • Inform the surgeon about your medications in advance.
  • Take a two-week break from natural products and supplements, such as fish oils, fatty acid preparations, and St. John’s wort.
  • You can move normally the day before surgery.
  • Follow eating and drinking instructions. This is very important for anesthesia safety. If you haven’t followed fasting times, the procedure may need to be rescheduled.
  • Leave valuable items at home. Bring comfortable clothes that are easy to put on when leaving for home.

Surgery is never risk-free, but serious complications are rare. It's important that the patient and surgeon discuss risks before surgery. Current surgical and anesthesia methods are quite safe. Risks usually arise from the patient's other illnesses. The patient's condition is monitored after the procedure, depending on the procedure, from a few hours to a day.
