Once the initial assessment is complete, the consultant refers the client to the surgeon.

The consultant handles scheduling with the surgeon and helps arrange practical matters such as travel arrangements, accommodation, and post-surgery check-ups.
They can also advise on possible reimbursement or financing options.

4. Support and Follow-up

The consultant remains as support throughout the treatment process.
They ensure the client has all necessary information and everything proceeds as planned.

Can I Get Kela Reimbursement for My Surgery?

How to Prepare for Surgery

It’s natural to feel nervous about surgery. If you have any concerns, you can contact us.

Stop smoking. Being smoke-free reduces complication risks, reduces post-procedure problems, and shortens hospital stay and recovery time.
Inform the surgeon about your medications in advance.
Take a two-week break from natural products and supplements, such as fish oils, fatty acid preparations, and St. John’s wort.
You can move normally the day before surgery.
Follow eating and drinking instructions. This is very important for anesthesia safety. If you haven’t followed fasting times, the procedure may need to be rescheduled.
Leave valuable items at home. Bring comfortable clothes that are easy to put on when leaving for home.

Do I need to undergo tests before surgery?

Yes. Certain tests are always required to ensure the surgery is as safe as possible. You'll get additional information and referrals for tests from our surgeons in Finland.

Do I need to stay overnight in Estonia for the procedure?

Many procedures are day surgery, meaning you can come by morning ferry and return to Finland in the evening. Some procedures may require overnight stay in the hospital or in a patient hotel near our clinic. During the consultation, you'll learn more about the specific course of your surgery.

What patient documents do I need?

Don't worry unnecessarily, we'll help you compile the right documents. Depending on the procedure, you'll likely need laboratory test results, imaging study results, referral or assessment made and decided about the procedure, doctor's statement, and other relevant information required by the healthcare facility for treatment.

Also, any preliminary decision granted by Kela and possible financing decision should be available at the latest on the day of the procedure.

What to do on the day of procedure?

3. After the procedure; ensure you receive necessary patient documents, invoice itemization, and receipt in writing

Can I discuss implants or techniques with the surgeon before breast surgery?

Yes. The consultant takes the client's medical history, assesses the situation, and listens to wishes. However, the surgeon always makes the final decision about the procedure and technique to be used. The surgeon discusses different stages of the procedure with the client before the surgery decision.

Procedures, Recovery from Surgery, and Aftercare

What should I consider during recovery?

Recovery and pain are very individual. It's good to avoid heavy work, loads, and physical strain after all procedures. At home, over-the-counter pain medication and cold therapy are usually sufficient for pain.

During consultation, you'll get good advice on how to prepare for the surgery trip and returning home. You'll also receive comprehensive aftercare instructions from us.

Can I get sick leave for the surgery?

Sick leave duration varies from a few days to several weeks. The length of sick leave depends on the physical requirements of the profession and the surgical procedure. Sick leave due to aesthetic procedures may be unpaid.

Where and how does post-surgery care take place?

Stitches are often self-dissolving, but in some surgeries, removable stitches are used. You can visit the operating surgeon in Finland for stitch removal, or you can book an appointment at your local health center for removal.

Does Aurora Clinic have patient insurance if something happens?

Yes. The hospital has valid patient insurance.

What if complications or wound infection occur after surgery?

Surgery is never risk-free, but serious complications are rare. It's important that the patient and surgeon discuss risks before surgery. Current surgical and anesthesia methods are quite safe. Risks usually arise from the patient's other illnesses. The patient's condition is monitored after the procedure, depending on the procedure, from a few hours to a day. The most common surgical wound complication is infection. If you suspect infection, you can contact the surgeon.

Are my personal details secure?

Yes. Patient and client information is personal data, and its processing is subject to the European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulation. In addition to the EU GDPR, the management and processing of patient and client data is governed by, among others, the Data Protection Act, the Act on the Status and Rights of Patients, the Act on the Status and Rights of Social Welfare Clients, and the Act on Electronic Processing of Client Data in Healthcare and Social Welfare.
